"When I Stop Learning, I Begin to Die." Part I: Internet Programs

First Thing Learned from My Potential and Actual Students Part I: How to Install and Use Professionally-Oriented Programs over Internet

"We young people understand that from now on we shall know more about the internet world than adults do." My potential and actual students know more than I do and have taught me many things.

If you made it to this point in my blog, you must know that I am a teacher/tutor/mentor. I am not the objective person to evaluate myself, what I am like, and how well do I teach. I am too subjective. However, I do feel that I do a decent job as a teacher. I can be more objective and tell you some of the things that potential and actual students have taught and in many cases continue to teach me. First, students have taught me how to install and use a few computer programs. In some cases I still continue to use those installed programs.

These programs can be roughly placed in two groups: Professional Programs and Social Programs.  I shall mention the professional programs and save the social ones for next time. Students have introduced me to at least five professional programs that have to do with my teaching responsibilities, and I still use three of these programs with a certain frequency.

Skype and PowerPoint

Years ago, a student educated me about Skype and PowerPoint and helped me to install it in my computer. Since then, he has connected with me from China, India, Indonesia, United States of America, and France, if my memory serves me correctly. Throught this faithful program I have also connected with students in places like Australia, Egypt, Spain, and Peru, and still have contact with students in the United States, Chile, and Venezuela.

Zoom and Microsoft Teams

More recently, one of my students has introduced me to and helped me explore initially both Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with the former being of more practical use for me at the moment.

Flipgrid

Just a short while ago, a student indirectly introduced me to the world of Flipgrid, and I have a feeling that I may be expanding my use of this program with my students.

So, as you can see, the first thing that I have learned about from my potential and actual students is the existence of some good professional and social programs available for use on the internet. What are your favorite professionally-oriented internet programs? What other programs have been useful to you?

Until next time, keep on learning, because..

You still have a life to live!
