Three Questions and Answers about My Memorial Walks

Welcome to my blog, whether you somehow got here directly or followed a message and link like the following:. THE FIRST MEMORIAL MARATHON WALK THE START, THE THREE LOOPS, AND THE FINISH OF THE MEMORIAL MARATHON WALK SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 27, 2021, LORD WILLING You may or may not have seen this personal tidbit about my getting ready to go out on my weekly, longer memorial walk, usually done now on Saturdays, “My weekly long walk planned for February 27, 2021 ended up being a literal marathon, taking place from 4:59 a.m.- 12:43 p.m. on that day. I woke up early, which means “before 4 a.m.,” and I could not go back to sleep. For that reason, I got up, did my first early morning routine chores, got ready for my long walk, and got an early start.” Before I continue with my more specific “Memorial Marathon Walk” notes from February 27, let's briefly consider the answers to three related questions. First, what does a memorial walk mean to me? A normal memorial wa...

"When I Stop Learning, I Begin to Die." Part I: Internet Programs

"When I Stop Learning, I Begin to Die." Part I: Internet Programs First Thing Learned from My Potential and Actual Students Part I: How to Install and Use Professionally-Oriented Programs over Internet "We young people understand that from now on we shall know more about the internet world than adults do." My potential and actual students know more than I do and have taught me many things.  If you made it to this point in my blog, you must know that I am a teacher/tutor/mentor. I am not the objective person to evaluate myself, what I am like, and how well do I teach. I am too subjective. However, I do feel that I do a decent job as a teacher. I can be more objective and tell you some of the things that potential and actual students have taught and in many cases continue to teach me. First, students have taught me how to install and use a few computer programs. In some cases I still continue to use those installed programs.  These programs can be roughly placed in ...

Helping Others to Learn and Learning from Others

Hello, Friend. How are you doing? I have been absent from my blog for a couple of years as I try to manage all of my commitments. As you can tell by the title, I try to help others to learn, as I learn from them and others.  This blog is a continuation of my Chegg Tutor Profile page found at  https://www.chegg.com/tutors/online-tutors/Ambrose-P-8801441/           You can visit that page if you want to find out more formal and informal information about me. Since I have been affiliated with Chegg, I have had the opportunity to learn about the school assignments of students who come looking for orientation as they struggle to do their homework. My guess is that it is harder to learn, since many formal classes are not in session and much learning has to take place with a strong online component. As I mentioned in the Extracurricular Interests Section on my Chegg Profile page, talking about myself, " Since he is a bookworm (library mouse, in Spa...

The English Teacher Explains His Approach to the Task of Training Each Student.

Ambrose Powell, native born English speaker and language teacher for more than forty years, first became interested in other languages while studying French in elementary school and junior high school, and added Latin while attending high school. In his undergraduate studies he worked with Biblical Greek and an introduction to Biblical Hebrew. During his twenty-two years of graduate studies, he continued to study Biblical Greek, Biblical Hebrew, and a little modern Hebrew. Apart from these university studies he also learned Spanish and added a little bit more of modern Hebrew. He has made translations into English and Spanish and has worked with both languages even for the purpose of translating legal documents. In order to keep himself up to date in English, while living in Venezuela, he has read and reviewed some books before and after their publication over Amazon, paying special attention to the plots and general development of the main ideas.     This experience s...

Teaching English in Venezuela

About Me In my personal contact with education-related blogs, I continue to review and ruminate about articles related to teaching English to children. As I mentioned in my previous entry, my English courses are usually for students at least 11 years old. I consider my approach to English to be integral; I am interested in helping each student to listen, speak, read, and write with a good understanding of the English used. You might not see a lot of evidence of my reading in this blog entry. Sometimes the authors prefer to send me directly their blog entries. I continue to read blog-related articles on education, changes in the English language, and difficulties in other languages like Russian and Arabic. Years ago I ran into a little bit of the type of Arabic difficulties mentioned.  I got some Arabic materials to share with a friend only to find out that it was not his type of Arabic. He could not understand the materials, but he appreciated my effort. I always run into Engli...
Greetings on June 25, 2013. In my personal blogs I am reviewing some articles about teaching English to children, especially by music. My English courses are usually for students ages eleven (11) and older. However, sometimes I get younger students or visitors. The insights and practical materials about English and music in the blog articles may help me a lot with these younger students. I especially like the book on nursery rhymes. I may try to use some of them. I am also reading some blog articles on changes in the English language. I always run into a simpler kind of word usage with my students. My old favorite word "dialogue" is now, more often than not, written as "dialog." I used to go "travelling", but now it seems like everyone goes "traveling." I should not complain too much about these more recent changes; my generation also changed some of the the previous generation's words. I shall keep you up to date on my personal teachin...
